If you’re anything like me, you start off each year with a long list of personal goals you’ll DEFINITELY accomplish THIS year that you just never got around to in previous years, all while juggling the kids, the husband and the dog. Being a mom is hard work and staying organized, I find is even harder!
Towards the end of 2018, I decided to look long and hard to find ways I could stick to a workout schedule, meal planning, school activities and run an efficient and profitable business, all while being engaged and available for our family. It required breaking down my goals into personal and professional goals and learning to tackle them separately. I’m certainly no expert in being organized and more importantly, STAYING organized, but I think I’ve figured out a way to keep myself afloat using some tools out there.
Now, I’m a huge sucker for pretty paper planners and this year, I’m using this to help me stay focused. It’s a gorgeous paper planner from Sugar Paper based in Los Angeles and what I love about it is how it is organized. There are sections for you to stay focused on your monthly to dos, but also down to your weekly overall checklist as well as daily tasks. Being able to see what I need to have accomplished by the end of the month is so important to me. Getting that overview helps me figure out how to organize my daily tasks.
Speaking of daily tasks, I am trying out an online task management program called Trello. Trello has been around for a while, but I only just stumbled up on it while research on how to stay on top of my day to day tasks. Being a busy mom myself, I’m finding that Trello is perfect for when I need an electronic reminder of tasks that I need to complete before the end of the day, such as grocery shopping, or it may be editing a clients’ session. Within those tasks, Trello allows you to add a checklist! There’s something just so satisfying about being being able to cross something off your list! It just feels so good! And here’s a great blog post by Virginia wedding photographer, Katelyn James on how to use Trello.
So this year, my plan is to stay organized. I just can’t give up my paper planners entirely just yet, so between my Sugar Paper planner and Trello, I think I’m going to rock this 2019!
